Welcome to AfriCHI Mentorship 2025. Join us on our mentorship journey as we come together and weave wisdom towards AfriCHI 2025 in Egypt. Our mentorship programme seeks to support students and early career researchers in maximising their engagement in conference activities. From polishing up your submission to reviewing submissions and networking at the conference the mentorship team aims to equip you with the right building blocks to succeed. If you are interested in taking part as a mentor, please complete the following form here. If you would like to participate as a mentee, kindly complete this form. The deadline for applications is Sunday 20th October 2024 and spots are limited. If you have any questions for us do not hesitate to reach out: africhi-mentorship@googlegroups.com.
In line with the conference theme of “Re-centering African Wisdom in HCI” we seek to draw on diverse expertise to best guide students and early career researchers in the pursuit of HCI scholarship that draws inspiration from African Wisdom. We hope that through this programme mentees have the opportunity to also be heard and lead their work in ways in which we can create African-centred and situated experiences for all.
We have a series of activities lined up for our mentees. Our activities will mainly take the form of workshops and group mentorship. These activities aim to support our mentees in
fully engaging in the conference and meaningfully driving conversations on digital transformation and innovation within Africa. Once selected as a mentee you will be provided with the outline on how these activities will be manifested within the programme.
“You can’t expect a harvest without planting seeds”
The value you gain from this mentorship programme relies on your commitment as a mentee. We therefore, expect your cooperation and dedication to help make this journey a fruitful one. Mentorship is a voluntary service, and we value you and our mentors too. As a mentee we expect the following:
As a mentor you are in a core position to support and encourage junior researchers in their journey of participating in AfriCHI 2025. This may be in the form of facilitating a writing seminar, providing feedback to junior authors, facilitating reviewing workshops, shepherding a paper, or providing top tips on presenting and networking at a conference. Great communication and encouraging reflection are some good qualities to have as a mentor.
