AfriCHI 2025 is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This means that people from all backgrounds can take part in AfriCHI conferences and feel completely welcome. Discrimination on the basis of a person’s nationality, religious beliefs, gender, age, or any other criteria that distinguishes us from one another will not be tolerated in AfriCHI. Instead, participation is encouraged from every group, with special focus on building equity for marginalized groups.
We abide by the ACM’s statement on DEI and follow the guidelines provided therein:
The ACM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council is committed to creating an environment that welcomes new ideas and perspectives to drive a more inclusive culture within ACM and the global community we serve. Together we can provide an environment where everyone has access and opportunity to achieve their goals, while creating an inclusive culture for ALL.
The theme of AfriCHI 2025 is “Re-centering African Wisdom in HCI," and at the core of African wisdom is that sense of community and looking out for one another that sustains us all. Inclusion is the incorporating of African knowledge systems and community values into the design and implementation of technologies, resulting in more culturally relevant and accessible innovations. By emphasizing African wisdom, AfriCHI 2025 encourages a rethinking of global HCI methods, putting the African sense of community at the heart of technological progress.
This convergence of DEI and African knowledge provides a unique chance to design future HCI endeavors, ensuring that they are inclusive, representative, and empowering to all parts of society.
